    Progress for Carver Project

In the last week Lydia and I have been working on the syllabus for the music/dance program for the Carver Center. We have come up with an overview and a basic outline of what needs to be accomplished during each lesson with the children. Lydia and I have worked on the music and choreography for the first two dances in the musical dance “Peter and the Wolf.” The first song “Peter” will be danced by a main character Peter and his friends. This song will be performed by the older group of kids. Then the second song, “Birds” will be danced by the younger group of children. The second part of our project, which is the food drive, has been confirmed. I went and spoke to the events coordinator for Living Word Christian Church and they have gladly agreed to help us with the food drive. There will be an announcement given two Sunday services in a row for which people can bring in food donations. There is also going to be a posting in the weekly bulletin with a list of the foods needed. Once the collection has come in, Lydia and I will be responsible for collecting, delivering, and organizing the food for the Carver Center.

  • Carver Center, Port Chester

Unfortunately, we had a few hiccups with Neighbors Link in Mount Kisco so we did our research and have decided to work with Carver Center in Port Chester instead.

Our initial idea of hosting a Music-Dance workshop is still in the works. Depending on logistics and ironing out the kinks in terms of scheduling, etc., we might or might not implement this with our project.

However, Nancy Haneman, the Development Direct at CC has expressed a need for a food drive for the center. Coincidentally, she knows Katherine Davis so she is all for our project!

Due to the economy, less people have been donating food and supplies. Stephanie and I have decided to help out in this area--collecting the food and helping to organize it so that they are readily accessible when families need them.

Also, we are planning on hosting a "College Life" workshop at CC. They currently have an assistance program for teenage moms and we have decided to work with this group as well as other teenagers. Because the idea of applying and attending college can be an intimidating process, we will share our experiences with these teenagers and advise on different areas such as balancing family, work, and school, scholarships and financial aid, as well as a Q&A segment. We believe that this workshop will be very beneficial to this community.

We are still in the midst of working out the details and am open to any suggestions you might have. See you tomorrow!
