Unfortunately, we had a few hiccups with Neighbors Link in Mount Kisco so we did our research and have decided to work with Carver Center in Port Chester instead.
Our initial idea of hosting a Music-Dance workshop is still in the works. Depending on logistics and ironing out the kinks in terms of scheduling, etc., we might or might not implement this with our project.
However, Nancy Haneman, the Development Direct at CC has expressed a need for a food drive for the center. Coincidentally, she knows Katherine Davis so she is all for our project!
Due to the economy, less people have been donating food and supplies. Stephanie and I have decided to help out in this area--collecting the food and helping to organize it so that they are readily accessible when families need them.
Also, we are planning on hosting a "College Life" workshop at CC. They currently have an assistance program for teenage moms and we have decided to work with this group as well as other teenagers. Because the idea of applying and attending college can be an intimidating process, we will share our experiences with these teenagers and advise on different areas such as balancing family, work, and school, scholarships and financial aid, as well as a Q&A segment. We believe that this workshop will be very beneficial to this community.
We are still in the midst of working out the details and am open to any suggestions you might have. See you tomorrow!
